“I’ll Take Care of That Tomorrow” and Other Lame Things

I got this email [below] from my father. His forwards are usually funny, but they rarely hit home like this one did. It is even more relevant as we’re constantly saying “if we had the money, we’d..” or “we’ll have kids when we can afford them” or something along those lines. Who knows when we’ll have the money to “afford” kids and if we’ll be well beyond child-bearing years by then. And no, I refuse to be one of those women having babies after 40. Plain and simple, I personally do not want to do that if I can avoid it. We have 6 years left.

One of these days I will erase putting things off until “tomorrow” from my life and truly live in the moment. I have been guilty of not doing that basically my whole life. Sure, having kids will mean we have to plan more, but I hope we still have lots of time for spontaneity with them when it comes to day trips and things they really want to do.

Enjoy!

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven’t thought about it, don’t have it on their schedule, didn’t know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.

I got to thinking one day about all those people on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I’ve tried to be a little more flexible.

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn’t suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word ‘refrigeration’ mean nothing to you?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched ‘Jeopardy’ on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said , ‘How about going to lunch in a half hour?’ She would gas up and stammer, ‘I can’t. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain’ And my personal favorite: ‘It’s Monday.’ She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together.

Because Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches.. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We’ll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained. We’ll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet. We’ll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of ‘I’m going to,’ ‘I plan on,’ and ‘Someday, when things are settled down a bit.’

When anyone calls my ‘seize the moment’ friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you’re ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It’s just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now…go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to…not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting?

Make sure you read this to the end; you will understand why I sent this to you.

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night? Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask ‘How are you?’ Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head? Ever told your child, ‘We’ll do it tomorrow.’ And in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say ‘Hi’?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift….Thrown away…. Life is not a race. Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

Show your friends how much you care. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND including me if you consider me a friend. If it comes back to you, then you’ll know you have a circle of friends.

To those I have sent this to… I cherish our friendship and appreciate all you do. We have some history together.

‘Life may not be the party we hoped for… but while we are here we might as well dance.’

Back on the [Job] Hunt

I feel as though I’ve been liberated today. It’s really wrong of me to think that, but I’ve just been so miserable with a very large part of my life, and now it’s gone. Also gone is the money I made doing it. No, it was nothing illegal and didn’t involve soliciting anything walking the streets. It was legit, just… really stressful and nerve-wracking.

Two amazing jobs have been applied for and I would really love your happy thoughts for them. I have several more that I’m researching, but haven’t applied yet. Can’t y’all just send some generic amazing job vibes? And preferably jobs that will actually cover our bills and loan payments and everything else.

Thanks my friends!

Shutterfly: Holiday Cards, Photo Books, and So Much More

I dunno about you, but we love us some holiday cards. No, not Christmas cards, and not Hanukkah cards, but holiday cards. We have a mixture of religions on our address list, so our message tends to be generic.

But I digress! I’ve been designing and ordering holiday cards online for years. I wish I could say I’ve been loyal to one company, but let’s face it, I go where the deals are. Last year we used Shutterfly; this year will be no different. I haven’t been disappointed yet!

We are using Shutterfly as our main wedding trip and reception photo dump site so a huge chunk of our latest pictures are on there. We’re making several photo books, possibly a few calendars and definitely the holiday cards this year. I’ve certainly even considered a few canvas art prints for some of the favorite wedding pictures.

Do you prefer to send a flat or tent card? What about receiving- what’s your preference?

This post was sponsored by Shutterfly. I am getting 50 free cards in exchange for providing my opinion on Shutterfly cards. All reviews and opinions are my own. If you are a blogger and interested in earning free cards go here to sign up.

Giveaway Prize Redeemed: Inkubook #1

We got our first @inkubook back a few days ago. I’ve been staring at it and sharing it at work and with family. I could seriously stare at it nonstop.

As you may not remember, I won this book from a @BravoBride giveaway. I actually won 2 books and will be making the second one with pictures from the Trash the Dress photo shoot with Jessie and Jason of Emeric Photography (@emericphoto) that we won off the Green Orchid (@greenorchid) blog.

I just realized, as I was looking for the entry to hyperlink it up, that I never blogged about winning the books! Ahh well, here is the giveaway post and she announced I was the winner in the comments. After explaining that our wedding was over a year away, they adjusted our codes, which was really nice!, and they’re now set to expire November 30th.

Being the [wannabe] good blogger that I am, I took pictures of some of the pages. I do wish that I’d edited some of the pictures before adding them, but I was in a hurry to put together this book.

We truly had an amazing time in Vegas and this book is only about 2 hours of the entire 6 days. Amazing, huh?

All photos in this post were taken by me. Photos in the book of the dress, flowers and cake were taken by me. All photos of people in the books were taken by Trey of Scenic Las Vegas Weddings.

Party Invites are in the Mail!

Today was the first day I made actual progress towards the January wedding reception. Well, aside from Sunday evening when I sealed all the envelopes. But yes, today… today I dropped 70 thick envelopes into the mailbox at work. So by Wednesday, pretty much everyone should have received them. I still have about 30 more to address and mail.

The party is on January 15th, 60 days from today. I really do need to step it up about 12 notches and start delegating whatever needs to be done like booking food, finding table/chair and maybe tent rentals, making favors, and test-running desserts.

Yes, Greg Grunberg (@greggrunberg) and Zachary Quinto (@zacharyquinto) are getting invitations. Greg was my selection, Zachary was both of ours. Steve’s was Michael Keaton. I’m Batman! He asked me the other day what I’d do if any of them showed. I said that I would pass out. I’m about 150% sure that they won’t be showing, but a nice autograph would be wicked awesome!

Our other celebrity “guests” include the Obama’s (@barackobama) and, my personal favorite, Jon & Dorothea Bongiovi. Yeah, that’s my celeb hubby Jon Bon Jovi (@bonjovi). The only problem is that I can’t find any sort of fan address to send something to him.

iSpy a Neil Gaiman (@neilhimself) book in the background along with Woman’s Day and a knitting yarn winder.

A Truly Happy Life? I Haven’t Found It Yet.

Steve asked me earlier what it would take to make me truly happy in my life. Obviously him, our pets, my family and friends make the cut, but he meant job-wise. So I started thinking… I love to knit and want to open a yarn store one day. I want to have kids and raise them to be amazing little people that value those around them. I want to live where there are 4 seasons and lots of snow. I want a happy home full of delicious baking smells. I want more animals, friends for Lola and Phoenix, and protectors for our future kids. I want to be a better and faster knitter. I want to make clothes – knitted and sewn – for our kids.

Do you notice a pattern here? Knitting, children, animals.

I think I’ve found a focus for the blog.. now I just need to sculpt it a bit more. And build my reader base. And write far more frequently than I do now. The blogs I read posted at least once a day, and that should be my goal too. Well, at least 4 times a week. I think that’s a bit more doable for me.

What are some of your favorite blogs and why do you read them? I had over 100 wedding blogs, but even though it was a relevant topic, I skimmed them all then just clicked “mark all as read” and I’m sure I’m not alone in that.

Here’s where I need your help, lovely readers… I’m looking for a new tagline to incorporate knitting and home into my new header. Right now I’ve gotten as far as “A Hand-Knit Home: k1p2 to..” and then I can’t figure out how I want to word the rest. Help?

I’m finally tackling redesigning my blog using the handful of tutorials I found online. Good thing I know how to code and use PHP… cuz it’s difficult figuring ou where everything goes, etc. Have any of y’all done a major edit overhaul on WordPress?

Updatey Updaterson.. & Wanted: New Blog Look

I know, I’m terrible. I finally posted something but went and made it password protected. I’m having a pretty rough time at one of my jobs and just needed to vent the ever living hell out of things. My bad. Next time, I’ll just write write write and then email it out. I’m actually surprised at how many people hit up my blog on that day. Admit it, how many of you tried to guess the password? If you want to read it, please leave a comment with your email address and I’ll be more than happy to send you the password.

OK, well, things are’nt looking up on the job front. They’re getting worse actually. Also, my 6 month grace period on all my student loans is rapidly coming to an end. Next month. Yesterday I took charge and called my lenders. I got tired of the growing stack of “you owe us your first born” letters staring me down every day. Thank goodness for deferrals! That’s all I gotta say. I got a 6 month extension because I work part time and make peanuts. Funny, they didn’t ask if my job was good or not. Had they asked I might’ve gotten the whole 36 months granted then and there.

Let’s see… we’ve been talking a lot about having babies. And going back to Vegas for our anniversary. And getting our finances in order to be able to do the above 2 things.

Does anyone want to see wedding recaps? The majority of our pictures are around Vegas as only a few hours of the 6 days was the actual wedding. We’re getting our Inkubook of the pro wedding day pictures back in a few days and I’m posting pictures of the book! I finally picked out the pictures from our Day After/ Trash The Dress session and will be making a book out of those as well once they arrive.

Also, my lovely readers, do you know how difficult it is to create a whole new blog look? Right now I’m using one of the WordPress templates and it’s really bland. Sure, I created the header image from one of my Vegas pictures, but the page is just… blah.

I’m a designer, fully proficient in HTML. Well, not fully, but very comfortable with it.
