Timeline

Below is the timeline from the moment we met, through our wedding and now our adoption process in reverse chronological order. The most detailed part is the adoption process as there is a lot happening there. The rest is just a few more details.

July 16, 2014 Decided that we needed our foster license in order to expand our options and actually get responses from the agencies.
Contacted licensing specialist for next steps.
June 14-15, 2014 Inquired about nearly a dozen children across the US on AdoptUSKids
June 9, 2014 Received a phone call from CW that Ballerina no longer wishes to be adopted.
June 6-8, 2014 NFPA/FSFAPA Conference in Orlando
June 1, 2014 Met with Ballerina and her therapist for our 3rd play date
May 25, 2014 Impromptu 2nd play date with Ballerina and her therpist
May 24, 2014 Met with Ballerina and her therapists for our first outing
May 21, 2014 Met with Ballerina’s case worker and case manager for 2.5 hours
May 15, 2014 Met with Ballerina’s therapists for a couple hours
May 7, 2014 Received follow up call about Ballerina
May 2, 2014 Submitted a profile to both AdoptUSKids and inquired about Ballerina on the Miami Heart Gallery
May 1, 2014 We received the Home Study via email
April 17, 2014 Adoption Review Committee meeting at Our Kids. We should hear within a few weeks.
April 3, 2014 Email ACW about psych eval. She says she is forwarding it to Our Kids that afternoon.
March 31, 2014 Psych eval results emailed to FRC and Our Kids.
February 28, 2014 Husband meets with Dr. Woolman for his psychological evaluation.
February 25, 2014 Back up caregiver results finally approved by FRC.
February 24, 2014 Received email from FRC CEO telling me nothing new. Disappointed.
Bree from Our Kids calls and talks me down. I love her. She keeps me sane and grounded with this whole process talking us through the steps.
February 22, 2014 Attended Our Kids Town Hall and met the CEO of FRC as well as many other influential people and made more parent friends. Gave the FRC CEO a piece of my mind about his staff and asked a few questions. He is going to look into it and call me on Monday.
February 20, 2014 Husband needs to have a psychological evaluation done due to his past. Commence finding a psychologist, freak out over prices, make an appointment then await the results.
February 14, 2014 Emailed ACW for an update. No response.
February 10, 2014 We’re told FRC will provide info for husband’s psychological evaluation. We wait.
February 7, 2014 Back up caregiver gets fingerprinted.
February 6, 2014 Husband needs to have a psychological evaluation done due to his past.
January 30, 2014 Our file needs to be sent to Children’s Legal Services due to Husband’s past.
Also, just informed that our back up caregiver needs to submit her info for a background check and get fingerprinted.
January 29, 2014 FRC requested an ARC date for us.
January 17, 2014 Emailed for a follow up on approval. Told we needed to provide 10 years of address for additional background checking.
January 14, 2014 Husband turned 43
January 4, 2014 Final home visit for photos and more questions.
January 3, 2014 Re-sent husband’s employment verification form.
January 2, 2014 Re-sent 5th reference letter.
December 17, 2013 Our Kids intervenes and pushes FRC
December 9, 2013 Emailed ACW for an update. No response.
December 2, 2013 Emailed our marriage certificate, physicals, and final 2 references.
November 1, 2013 Another visit to the ACW’s office.
October 26, 2013 Another visit to our home from the ACW
October 18, 2013 Husband gets fingerprints redone.
October 1, 2013 Took care of many pre-placement documents, filled out forms, employee verifications, etc.
September 28, 2013 Met our ACW for the first time during a home visit
September 27, 2013 Went downtown to get our fingerprinting done
September 20, 2013 Tracked down our ACW as we hadn’t heard from her yet.
September 16, 2013 Becca turned 37
ACW was assigned!
September 10, 2013 Graduated from PRIDE class
August 17, 2013 Attended the Our Kids Heroes for our Children celebration and met my MPC and several more advocates and families.
August 2013 Began knitting a blankie for the (first?) Fletchling
July 27, 2013 We attended the SFFAPA summer fun picnic and met several foster and adoptive families.
July 16, 2013 First PRIDE class
July 12, 2013 First home visit by 2 of our PRIDE instructors.
June 29, 2013 Attended Orientation for PRIDE class with Family Resource Center (FRC)
April 15, 2013 Decided to officially pursue adoption from the US Foster Care System. I called the local agencies and signed us up for orientation class.
September 2012 Considered fertility drugs for a second until realizing it wasn’t in the cards for us. Also, got nearly perfect bloodwork back from my RE.
August 2012 Insured by my job, I went to a Reproductive Endocrinologist and was officially diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).
We had 2 options to have kids at this point – go on fertility drugs and hope my body would work after 35 years of not working or go the adoption route. My insurance would not cover the fertility treatment and we didn’t have the money to spend in the slim hopes that it would work the first time.
April 2011 Realized I was most likely infertile but didn’t have insurance to go to a doctor to confirm it.
December 2010 Decided to try to conceive and adopt within 2 years regardless of the outcome

November 28, 2007 Met in person for the first time… although there is some debate over this date.
October 10, 2007 Spoke on the phone for the first time after chatting online and emailing for 2+ months.
