South Floridian Looking for Admin Job.. Help?

OK, truth time. I need a job. Pretty desperately. Yes, I have a part-time job 3 days a week and average about 20-22 hours per week. So for a pay period, I make what I used to make in 1 week. Ouch.

So we have this “plan” for me to get a job… any job [that I’m willing to do] for a few months while I continue applying all over the country. I hate Miami. I feel like a teenager living here full of hatred for this city waiting to escape it. I can’t really explain why, I just hate it. I never went out partying, and never wanted to. I don’t drink [since I was 19] or do drugs [never touched any] or anything else. And that’s not just about living like I’m pregnant, I was never interested in drugs or losing control like when I used to drink.

Tangent, what?

I know it’s horrible to take a job knowing you’ll only be at it for a few months, but I just can’t see us living here very long. I’ve been looking all over the country, with focuses on Austin, DC, Madison, and a few other places. The good thing about DC is all the government jobs. The bad thing is how long and seemingly ambiguous their application process is.

Right now I’m looking for an administrative job. Something in the admin assistant range. We just need the money. My current job is making it really difficult to pay the bills. Steve has been footing the majority of the bills lately and lemme tell ya, it’s a horrible feeling. Sure I’d like to be a stay at home mom one day, but only IF we can actually afford it. And even then, it’d be to home-school our kids.

How can you help, blog friends? If you know anything in the Miami area in an administrative capacity, preferably something temporary, could you please let me know? Yes, I have an MBA, but at this point, I just need some extra money to pay bills. I’ll worry about using my degree later on. Please post, RT and spread this post as far as you can in South Florida. I will love you forever! And if your lead lands me a job, I’ll send you something yummy made especially for you!

Thanks!

Back on the [Job] Hunt

I feel as though I’ve been liberated today. It’s really wrong of me to think that, but I’ve just been so miserable with a very large part of my life, and now it’s gone. Also gone is the money I made doing it. No, it was nothing illegal and didn’t involve soliciting anything walking the streets. It was legit, just… really stressful and nerve-wracking.

Two amazing jobs have been applied for and I would really love your happy thoughts for them. I have several more that I’m researching, but haven’t applied yet. Can’t y’all just send some generic amazing job vibes? And preferably jobs that will actually cover our bills and loan payments and everything else.

Thanks my friends!

A New Job! [Think Bob Barker from The Price is Right…]

So that cryptic post from last week? It means that I am the proud newest team member at the local winery.

I saw the posting Monday afternoon and sent my resume in that night… at 2:30am! Tuesday morning I’d received an email asking why I was applying from NC. OK, he didn’t ask that, but it was quite funny and I assured him I not only lived in FL, but only a few miles from the winery. That night, I received a phone call from the owner and after about 20 minutes on the phone, we set up an interview for Thursday at 9am.

Thursday rolls around, I got there around 8:45am, met and talked with the owner and current marketing person and met the co-owner. When I left after 11am, I was feeling really good about it! It didn’t seem like an interview, per se, because I was giving ideas and suggestions to increase traffic and social media venues and just chatting. Basically, I was totally at ease and really enjoying our conversation. When I left, they said they’d let me know.

On Friday, I got the phone call and was offered the job! I ended up working the very next day, yep Saturday, for about 6 hours. It’s part time – 30 hours – for now and the pay is ehhh, but once they see what I’m doing and how traffic is increasing both to the website and to the winery, both the pay and hours can increase. Full time hours will also bring health insurance, vacation time, 401(K), profit sharing and so much more!

Want to see where I’ll be working?

This is literally right outside where my computer lives. Gorgeous, no?

If you’re in South Florida, you really should check it out! They’re one of the very few wineries that makes their wines from fruits other than grapes. In fact, there’s not a single grape in the place except for maybe a lunch bag. =)

This does mean that I’m working 2 part time jobs and with Steve working 9pm-9am, our time together will be extremely limited and uber precious! But the extra cash is definitely a welcome relief to all my creditors!

Plus with the wedding in a mere 2 weeks, we need all the budget friendly stuff we can get. Vegas is expensive between all the shows and transportation fess. Not to mention tips for all the hotel and wedding folks.
