Scam Going Around via Text Message

Just a little PSA for those reading this blog…

If you get a text/ call from (413) 347-3925, it is a SCAM! Below is a copy of the text I received. And to an even more interesting point, I have never even heard of that bank nor do I have any accounts beginning or ending with those 4 digits. I do wonder how many people have fallen for this. Maybe the same ones that think Nigeria really has princes wanting you to hold onto their millions.

413 area code is Western Massachusetts (NOT Boston!) On Wednesday, August 17, 2011 Berkshire County (westernmost county) was blanketed with text messages that Read: “THE CREDIT UNION CENTER ALERT: Your CARD has been DEACTIVATED. Please contact us at 413-623-3577.” Didn’t specify which Credit Union although Greylock CU is the largest in our area and is rated NUMBER ONE! in USA for service and customer satisfaction. My husband got this text on his pay-as-you-go-cell, which we have NOT given out to any bank, credit union or other commercial enterprise. This is a PRIVATE number for mostly family, and a few doctors. Of course, he didn’t respond and the next day an article in our local paper, The Berkshire Eagle outlined that it was a SCAM and at least one of the numbers had been deactivated by authorities. Unfortunately, two people gave out their private information. THIS IS A PHISHING SCAM, People! Don’t respond or if you must, look up the REAL number of your financial institution and call THEM to confirm the message. Chances are, they’ll tell you its a SCAM.

Now we need an ATTORNEY who will file a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against these people to recoup all our STOLEN minutes on our cells; that will put a stop to these after a few of these lawsuits!
