Post-Wedding Update Type Post (Including TTD Pictures!)

Whoops! Had that OvernightPrints link all wrong! My bad.

Wow, has it really been 3 days since I last posted? Craziness!

This weekend has been really productive for me in terms of post-wedding stuff. And considering that we bought ourselves a Hanukkah/ early Christmas Wii, that’s really saying something!

Let’s see, in the last 5 days I…

+ordered our marriage certificate
+received our CD of Trash the Dress pictures from the amazingly talented Emeric Photography
+ordered our holiday cards (using an Emeric picture) from Shutterfly
+wrote, completed, changed, and ordered our holiday newsletter from Vistaprint
+ordered our Thank You cards (also using an Emeric picture) from OvernightPrints
+just finished and ordered our 2nd Inkubook that we won in the giveaway (all Emeric pictures)
+played lots and lots of Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
+spent loads of time with my amazing hubby
+began knitting a pair of socks for a test knit

You want to see some of them, right? Seriously, I am in love with these pictures!

Using my Ebates account for Shutterfly, OvernightPrints, and Vistaprint, I am expecting a nice big fat refund check soon. I will never again shop online without first checking there to see what rebates I’ll get. It’s like the best “discount” ever! For OvernightPrints, I already had a coupon (HOLIDAY) for 50% off the cards, so not only was my order discounted, but I’m getting cash back. Yes, I’m cheap like that.

Most of our stuff was dependent on getting the CD, which is why so much happened so quickly. I had everything all laid out and just waiting for the picture. Of course, even then, I was still popping different pictures into the layouts.

This post is not sponsored by any company, I just happen to love Ebates and online shopping. <3

Hello Miami “Winter” – Please Stay A While

Days like today warm my little winter-starved heart. It will be in the 50s all day long in Miami and that just makes me ridiculously happy. The windier, the better because that drops the temp even more.

Sure, I knew what the weather was like down here before we moved. I was never moving here for the weather and was pretty damn depressed that I was leaving my cold weather and chances of snow for extreme heat year round. No, I’m not a freak, I LOVE cold weather! I also hate Miami. Yes, that does make me weird to the majority of the non-Miami residing population. We moved for family, cheaper rent (alas more expensive everything else), and a job. But mostly family.

Never in a million year did this Miami born and raised girl expect to be craving snow and weather in the 20s and 30s. It’s gotten to the point where I am seeking out jobs to apply for in states that HAVE an average snowfall listed. This 50* “winter” stuff doesn’t cut it for me anymore. I want to be able to wear my hats, scarves, and sweaters. Yesterday, it was over 80* all day and I went to work in shorts and a t-shirt. Also, I saw many Facebook postings of snow and freezing weather. Yeah, color me jealous. I’m sure they were jealous of the heat down here and, frankly, they can have it.

Yesterday I was searching through pictures from the last 11 months for our holiday newsletter and relished looking through the 2 folders of snow. It was depressing me. I do know that heavy and long winters can take a toll on people, but that’s what all this heat does to me. I don’t want to leave the house. Our a/c bill skyrockets the hotter it gets. It’s just so blah. Poor Phoenix doesn’t get why it’s so hot out as his winter coat keeps reappearing. There’s seriously enough fur for a whole new kitten every time I brush him.

In other news, I’m finally compiling what is needed for our January reception/ party. With the holidays coming up and mail likely being delayed, I should order it soon. Gotta pow-wow with our “party planners” soon to figure out what we need!

Scammers Abound – Even (Especially?) in the Wedding World

I just had a pretty eye-opening experience. A mere month and a half after we got married, I decided to finally order our marriage certificate. Yeah yeah, I’m a slacker. You don’t have to tell me.

Anyhow, I’d received 2 letters in the mail shortly after the wedding with 2 different websites to order our marriage certificate from. They both had our certificate number and looked official enough. I didn’t think much of them, and put them away. Today, as I went to finally order the certificate, I pulled the letters out. Different addresses, different prices, different websites. Weird, right?

First I DM’d my go-to everything wedding Vegas girl, Jennifer, then started digging around on the Clark County website. As it turns out, it WAS weird to get those 2 letters. On the Vegas Recorder page, there is an “Important Consumer Alert” front and center telling recent married couples that other sites aren’t legit and aren’t associated with the court house.

These companies may charge significantly more for copies of documents than what a customer would pay if requesting certified copies directly from the Clark Country Recorder’s Office.

Wow. Just wow.

Marriage capital of the world and of course there’s scammers!

The good news is that the certificate has been ordered and from the official site so my credit card is [hopefully] still safe. Good thing I know to check up on these things before blindly handing my credit card over to random people!

I sure do hope more people dig around before ordering stuff online.

And so ends my PSA of the day. =D

Designing our Holiday Cards

Tonight I decided to spend my down time after Thanksgiving dinner festivities working on our holiday cards, thank you cards, and a few photo books on Shutterfly. I have a few coupon codes, plus all our pictures – professional, mine and Cathy’s – were all uploaded to Shutterfly, so it’s about time to work on them. My biggest problem is picking which pictures to use! There are so many great pictures between the wedding day itself and our Trash the Dress session 2 days later. Jessie and Jason Emeric took some truly phenomenal pictures of us laughing and having a grand time and I have a strong feeling that their pictures will be on both the thank you and holiday cards.

This pictures is another possibility as it’s one of my fave from the wedding day itself. Tough decisions!

I’m still awaiting the disc from Emeric, which hopefully will arrive soon as our free book code expires on November 30th!

When you make holiday cards, do you use their templates and pop pictures in or do you upload a full design? I typically have been uploading my own design whenever I make cards of any type, but the ones in Shutterfly are actually super cute!

Also, for those still awaiting the Trash the Dress pictures, I will post them once they arrive! I don’t want to post the slide show as there’s a few I didn’t like how I looked in them, so y’all will just have to wait a bit longer. =D

Productive Day & Opening a Business?

Today was very productive in my world.

* I created a logo for my friend Kelly’s church group’s event. It’s super cute and pending the next set of edits.

* I did loads of research for sheep farms. Yep, totally random! Hubby and I started talking about where we want to be in 5 years and what we wanted to have accomplished. Having a sheep farm would be pretty damn amazing for so many reasons, and also because…

* I registered the domain name for my YARN SHOP! While I may not be a really experienced knitter having only been crafting goodies since late 2006, it is still a passion of mine. Nothing would make me happier than having my own yarn shop.

One day, eventually, the Fletcher’s will be the proud owners of Sheep 2 Skein Yarn Shop in a state yet to be determined, but definitely somewhere up north.

Sure, owning our own business will certainly take a lot of capital, which is also why the sheep farm would be helpful. Shearing sheep for wool apparently makes a decent amount of money. Sure sure, a sheep farm costs a crapload of money too. We have quite a few things to sort out.

Also, owning a business will make my life super flexible for having kids once we find a really reliable manager and staff.

In a perfect world, right? Well, at least I bought the domain. LOL

“I’ll Take Care of That Tomorrow” and Other Lame Things

I got this email [below] from my father. His forwards are usually funny, but they rarely hit home like this one did. It is even more relevant as we’re constantly saying “if we had the money, we’d..” or “we’ll have kids when we can afford them” or something along those lines. Who knows when we’ll have the money to “afford” kids and if we’ll be well beyond child-bearing years by then. And no, I refuse to be one of those women having babies after 40. Plain and simple, I personally do not want to do that if I can avoid it. We have 6 years left.

One of these days I will erase putting things off until “tomorrow” from my life and truly live in the moment. I have been guilty of not doing that basically my whole life. Sure, having kids will mean we have to plan more, but I hope we still have lots of time for spontaneity with them when it comes to day trips and things they really want to do.

Enjoy!

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven’t thought about it, don’t have it on their schedule, didn’t know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.

I got to thinking one day about all those people on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I’ve tried to be a little more flexible.

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn’t suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word ‘refrigeration’ mean nothing to you?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched ‘Jeopardy’ on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said , ‘How about going to lunch in a half hour?’ She would gas up and stammer, ‘I can’t. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain’ And my personal favorite: ‘It’s Monday.’ She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together.

Because Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches.. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We’ll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained. We’ll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet. We’ll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of ‘I’m going to,’ ‘I plan on,’ and ‘Someday, when things are settled down a bit.’

When anyone calls my ‘seize the moment’ friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you’re ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It’s just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now…go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to…not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting?

Make sure you read this to the end; you will understand why I sent this to you.

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night? Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask ‘How are you?’ Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head? Ever told your child, ‘We’ll do it tomorrow.’ And in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say ‘Hi’?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift….Thrown away…. Life is not a race. Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

Show your friends how much you care. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND including me if you consider me a friend. If it comes back to you, then you’ll know you have a circle of friends.

To those I have sent this to… I cherish our friendship and appreciate all you do. We have some history together.

‘Life may not be the party we hoped for… but while we are here we might as well dance.’

Giveaway Prize Redeemed: Inkubook #1

We got our first @inkubook back a few days ago. I’ve been staring at it and sharing it at work and with family. I could seriously stare at it nonstop.

As you may not remember, I won this book from a @BravoBride giveaway. I actually won 2 books and will be making the second one with pictures from the Trash the Dress photo shoot with Jessie and Jason of Emeric Photography (@emericphoto) that we won off the Green Orchid (@greenorchid) blog.

I just realized, as I was looking for the entry to hyperlink it up, that I never blogged about winning the books! Ahh well, here is the giveaway post and she announced I was the winner in the comments. After explaining that our wedding was over a year away, they adjusted our codes, which was really nice!, and they’re now set to expire November 30th.

Being the [wannabe] good blogger that I am, I took pictures of some of the pages. I do wish that I’d edited some of the pictures before adding them, but I was in a hurry to put together this book.

We truly had an amazing time in Vegas and this book is only about 2 hours of the entire 6 days. Amazing, huh?

All photos in this post were taken by me. Photos in the book of the dress, flowers and cake were taken by me. All photos of people in the books were taken by Trey of Scenic Las Vegas Weddings.

Party Invites are in the Mail!

Today was the first day I made actual progress towards the January wedding reception. Well, aside from Sunday evening when I sealed all the envelopes. But yes, today… today I dropped 70 thick envelopes into the mailbox at work. So by Wednesday, pretty much everyone should have received them. I still have about 30 more to address and mail.

The party is on January 15th, 60 days from today. I really do need to step it up about 12 notches and start delegating whatever needs to be done like booking food, finding table/chair and maybe tent rentals, making favors, and test-running desserts.

Yes, Greg Grunberg (@greggrunberg) and Zachary Quinto (@zacharyquinto) are getting invitations. Greg was my selection, Zachary was both of ours. Steve’s was Michael Keaton. I’m Batman! He asked me the other day what I’d do if any of them showed. I said that I would pass out. I’m about 150% sure that they won’t be showing, but a nice autograph would be wicked awesome!

Our other celebrity “guests” include the Obama’s (@barackobama) and, my personal favorite, Jon & Dorothea Bongiovi. Yeah, that’s my celeb hubby Jon Bon Jovi (@bonjovi). The only problem is that I can’t find any sort of fan address to send something to him.

iSpy a Neil Gaiman (@neilhimself) book in the background along with Woman’s Day and a knitting yarn winder.
