Tweet: @msrib after finally settling on wedding dress #3, i’m rethinking my jewelry. at least i wear the necklace i bought all the time so it’s not wasted. http://bit.ly/9CYcIn

The neckline of my dress is fairly low, as I learned when I tried on undergarments last week. My favorite and best fitting bustier stuck over the top of the dress by at least 1″. The piece I have is royal blue with a brass setting and chain. My dress is champagne, and my hair piece is silver with clear rhinestones and crystals.

Now I am totally rethinking what I want to wear. I have a bunch of Swarovski pearls in Powder Almond and Copper that I was planning on making for my bridesmaids until our bridal party was taken out of the picture. Anything I see on Etsy with pearls I can remake easily. Yes, I’m that good. šŸ˜‰ I love the look of a simple necklace with a large show piece off to one side. My concern is would that show piece stay off to the side? Don’t know what I’m talking about? Something like this:

Tweet: @msrib totally putting my married name on my new business cards cuz holy smokes, i’ll be Rebecca Fletcher in 64 days! http://twitpic.com/2ccxod

So.. yeah, I decided to put my married name on my new business cards. I sat there staring at the screen trying to figure out what to do and then it hit me… in exactly 2 months (since it’s 8/10) I will be a wife! It also made me contemplate the whole do I change my name internal debate. I have 2 brothers and thus, my last name will remain. I’m just happy to have a much easier to pronounce last name to give to my children. For the last nearly 34 years, I’ve had people mispronounce my last name and it’s getting annoying.

If you’re on any of the above websites, feel free to add me!

Do the… ‘Do (ha!)

Ok ladies, I need some help. We are on a crazy tight budget for our wedding and I’m planning on doing my own hair and make-up for the ceremony. Since it’s a Vegas wedding, it’s very low key. I am forever putting my hair up, no matter how it’s styled, so I figure best to start with it up. Also, I want an updo as I have knit my wedding veil and want to wear it hooked below the ‘do.

Tonight I purchased Spin Pins and a ton of bobby pins. Can you suggest your favorite easy to explain updo?

After a quick search, I like the following styles, but I don’t know how easy they’ll be to replicate or if they’ll look good with my veil…

And as a treat, what my hair looks like with the Spin Pins and my gorgeous hair comb.

Not Such Pretty Underthings…

Back to the drawing board… none of the lingerie really made me happy. I now have a better idea of what I need and have to keep cup size in mind. Here’s why…

The long line bustier, while the best fit and shaping under the dress, stuck up about 1″ over the top of my dress. Honestly if I had a reason to keep it, I would! I ended up ordering the correct cup size but went one size up on my bra band. I can’t tell if the band increase was a problem or not as I loved the overall fit. It certainly coulda been tighter.

The waist cincher didn’t do a whole lot for me, even though it was the correct size. My waist is an odd number and I ordered the even size below instead of above as they suggested. It was actually a little loose right under my bust.

The ruffle panties were omg too cute… on the model. The front and back have the same rise and it was much farther than I feel comfortable wearing. Not only that, but the sizing was way off. According to the size chart, I ordered the correct size, but on my body they were just too big. I was really hoping to love them.

With the strapless bra, I really only have one complaint. I want to know who thought it was a good idea to have only 3 hook & eye’s on a bra with cups over DD. Especially those that are way over DD. I hate my boobs. Seriously hate them. I fear getting pregnant cuz I know they will only grow when all I want is for them to shrink! What, tangent?

My bad.

I’m starting over again. Keeping the strapless since I will need it for something one day. Do you have any suggestions of sites I should check?

Pretty Underthings

Where ā€œpolite societyā€ may not want to discuss lingerie, brides are all about discussing it and trying to find the perfect items to shape and support under our wedding gowns.Ā As a plus size bride, itā€™s been difficult finding what I am looking for mostly because my in-store localĀ options are vastly limited. I cannot shop at Victoriaā€™s Secret due to their bra sizes being far too small. I will not shop at Frederickā€™s of Hollywood due to, well, they sell a lot of trashy lingerie and I donā€™t feel like digging through it. Lane Bryant sells some, but mostly Spanx and pretty corsets.

So I turned to the internet. Ah the glorious internet. I wonā€™t shop at any stores called ā€œbig girls brasā€ or the like. Instead I discovered sites like HerRoom.com and HipsAndCurves.com. Both have a wide variety of sizes in a huge selection of everything from bras, bustiers, corsets, panties, all over shapers and so much more. As someone who exclusively buys bras at Lane Bryant, these sites are a godsend with free or relatively low shipping and great return policies.

Now for the matter at hand. My dress has spaghetti straps and is fitted in the bodice, in true empire waist form, than completely flowing chiffon down to the floor. After many internal and twitter-fed debates, I am opting for Spanx and a strapless. Or maybe a strapless and a waist cincher. Or maybe a basque bra and Spanx. The possibilities are endless.

From HipsAndCurves, I purchased the following items and should have them this week. I’ve got no problem posting what I purchased, just don’t ever expect a picture of me in these things! Between these and the high waisted Spanx, which would you wear? I’m not too concerned about fashion; more concerned with comfort and doing their job! šŸ˜‰

OK, so the shorts aren’t for the wedding day

4.5 months later, my wedding veil is done

All of my progress pictures since casting on October 29, 2009.

One of my favorites twitter tags lately has been #imcrazy.

I’m crazy for undertaking such a huge knitting project. As a fairly new knitter, I decided that I would knit my wedding veil. I cast on the first stitches on October 29, 2009 and just now finished it on March 16, 2010. It was a very long 4.5 months and well over 48,000 stitches.

I am unbelievably proud of myself for undertaking this project and completing it.
So proud of how gorgeous it turned out.
So proud of my perseverance in knitting every day at lunch and while watching TV at night.

I still need to block* it and attach it to the comb. But for now, it is completely finished.

* Blocking means wetting the piece and pinning it to a board to force it into the proper shape.

Hotels, Cupcakes & My Veil!

I realized pretty late last night that I should stop price checking hotels and flights from RDU. Why, you ask? Because we have no flippinā€™ idea where weā€™ll be living in 6-7 months! For all I know, weā€™ll be living in Vegas or Virginia or Orlando or any number of other places. And of course, the prices Iā€™m checking are all non-refundable!

Last week, the lovely Jennifer of @TheNearlyWed sent us 4 cupcakes from Retro Bakery. While they priced quoted us a lot more than I expected for a simple cake, their cupcakes are reasonably priced and Iā€™m pretty sure (like 95%) that weā€™re getting a cupcake tower from them for the wedding! Also, they are aMAZing! Jenn sent us 1 each of their Red Carpet, Peanut Butter Cup, Cinnamon Toast, and Mint Chocolate Chip. We loved them all, in different levels of *love* but any way you look at it, we LOVED them all.

Yes, I broke SoBe to eat wedding cupcakes. It was worth it too!

Also also, the yarn for my veil is back in stock! So guess what Iā€™m doing today? Thatā€™s right, ordering 7 skeins of yarn from Knitpicks, 5 in Cream, 1 in Sweet Potato (orange), and one in Blue Note Heather.  The orange and blue are for the trim to have a few rows of each color. Granted, I donā€™t know when Iā€™ll be able to start on it since I have about 800 projects for events that occur before our wedding, like 4 pregnant co-workers! Seriously, my friends need to stop having babies so I can catch up on my own knitting! ļŠ

OK, I think thatā€™s about it. Happy Wednesday!
